KANNUR: Even before summer has strengthened, Kerala is melting in the heat of the day. The Central Meteorological Department's automatic weather station recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in Kannur in the last few days. Experts said climate change is the reason for experiencing extreme heat and extreme cold. Winter is short-lived in Kerala. The temperature later increased day by day as in summer.

Except in the hilly areas, daytime temperature was 32-34 degree Celsius and night temperature was 23-25 degree Celsius in the first week of this month. Only 31 degrees Celsius was recorded yesterday, but in the last three days it has soared to 36.0, 40.3 and 40 degrees Celsius. This is about six degrees higher than the previous years. The state disaster management authority had informed that Kannur airport recorded the highest day temperature of 40 degree Celsius yesterday. Other districts are also getting hotter day by day. Water bodies and wells have dried up in many places.

Temperature will rise further
The district experiences the heat experienced in the months of March, April and May from the beginning of February itself. Kannur is among the districts that have recorded the highest temperature in the state in the last few years. Experts pointed out that the temperature is likely to rise in the following days.
