THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After the Janata Dal-S and Loktantrik Janata Dal merger, the CPM may ask the Kerala Congress groups on the Left Front to merge. However, it will not pressurise the groups for the merger.
At present, there are four Kerala Congress groups on the Left FrontKerala Congress-M is the biggest party. Democratic Kerala Congress, Kerala Congress-B and Kerala Congress-Skaria Thomas are smaller groups. The CPM is likely to propose the three smaller groups to become one or merge with the Mani Group. The move can help reduce the size of the Left Front ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
After the 2021 assembly elections, Left Front had initially planned to replace Antony Raju of the Democratic Kerala Congress with KB Ganesh Kumar of the Kerala Congress-B as the minister after two and a half years. Meanwhile, sources close to left camps are saying that the property dispute case related to Ganesh Kumar and his sister is affecting his chance of becoming a minister. It is in the context that the CPM is proposing the merger.
