NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has expressed its displeasure over the endless prolongation of the trial in the actress assault case. The bench chaired by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari toughened the stance as the statement recording of those who had already been examined and the new witnesses did not end. Prosecution's explanation was sought as the trial progressed. The court also directed the accused actor Dileep to submit his objection in writing.
The Supreme Court considered the case in connection with the extension of time to the trial court. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Dileep, opposed the prolongation of the trial. Prosecution decided to examine 41 more witnesses. The statements of many have been recorded earlier. New witnesses are brought in at the last minute. Rohtagi asked that such steps of prosecution should not be allowed.
With this, the court expressed its displeasure with the trial being prolonged. Prosecution has to convince the need and purpose of further examination of the witnesses. The matter will be taken up again on Friday.
