KOZHIKODE: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has registered a case on the death of a tribal man in Kozhikode. The Commission sent notices to DGP Anil Kant, Kozhikode district collector Dr Narasimhugari Reddy and to City police commissioner Rajpal Meena. As per the notice, a report is to submitted to the commission in this regard within three days.
The notice also states to explain the steps taken so far in the case. The names of those arrested and information about the case filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have also been sought. The report should be submitted within three days by letter, in person or by other means. If not, then civil court proceedings will be initiated. The commission has registered a case based on newspaper reports related to the death of a tribal youth in Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, the SC/ST commission has completely rejected the police report regarding Viswanathan's death. The commission informed that the Executive Magistrate did not conduct an inquiry and considered it as lapse. The police have been instructed to submit a new report within four days.
Last Wednesday, Viswanathan was found dead hanging from a tree in the medical college hospital premises. Viswanathan came to the hospital for his wife's delivery. But the relatives said that the mob beat him up accusing him of theft. Viswanathan's mother-in-law had alleged that he was angry and sad of being accused of a crime which he didn’t do and he went missing after that
