NEW DELHI: The inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) auction saw some hefty bids on players. In the player auction held in Mumbai, Smriti Mandhana was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.4 crore. RCB also acquired Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry by shelling out Rs 1.7 crore.

Smriti received praise and wishes from many people, including celebrities and teammates. Her hefty salary also invited memes, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was one of those who appeared in them. After the auction, cricket fans have flooded social media with trolls comparing the earnings of Babar Azam and Smriti.
Babar Azam gets Rs 2.30 crore from PSL, Pakistan cricket's version of the IPL. He is the highest-paid player in the league, but couldn't even come close to the salary of Smriti in the inaugural edition of the WPL. He was even beaten by other WPL players by Deepti Sharma, who will receive a salary of Rs 2.60 crore. The memes were aimed at the comparison between IPL and PSL.
