KOZHIKODE: The police have received a statement that Viswanathan, a tribal youth who hanged himself in the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital premises, was a victim of a mob trial. The police got the crucial information from questioning the four security personnel and eight other people present at the place. According to the police, some of the witnesses saw the mob questioning Viswanathan. Medical College ACP K Sudarshanan said that the police will interrogate more people who were at the spot.

Meanwhile, the State Scheduled Caste Commission rejected the report given by the police which stated that the youth committed suicide. The commission also directed the police to register a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The commission, which pointed out serious lapses, pointed out that the inquest procedure was not held in presence of the Executive Magistrate. Commission chairman BS Maoji directed the police to submit a new report within four days. The commission intervened during the adalat for grievance redressal held at the collectorate.

National Commission for Scheduled Tribes registers case
The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has also filed a case regarding the youth's death. The commission has sought a report from DGP, District Collector and City Police Commissioner.
