TRIPOLI: A ship carrying refugees from Libya has sunk in an accident. The ship carrying refugees from Tripoli, the Libyan capital, to Europe was involved in the accident. The United Nations says most of the refugees have died in the biggest ship disaster in recent history. It is reported that 73 of the 80 passengers drowned.

Figures indicate that 130 people have already died on the sea journey to Europe this year. Accidents are often reported during the seaborne refugee flow from Libya to Europe due to inadequate safety standards. Women and children are often victims of disasters. In 2019, 150 refugees drowned in a similar disaster off the coast of Komas, east of Tripoli. The passenger boat with 250 seat capacity sank while carrying more refugees than it could hold.
