suicide

ERUMAPETTY: The head of the family committed suicide in Velur as he could not repay the three lakh loan taken from the Velur Service Cooperative Bank for his daughter's marriage and house construction. Chittilappilly Anthony's son Francis (64) native of Kiralur, hanged himself at his home.

Relatives alleged that the suicide was due to the threat of attaching properties from the bank officials. The son also revealed that his mother, a rubber estate worker, was threatened at her workplace. Francis was found hanging in the morning. The loan of three lakhs was renewed in 2018 but it became six lakhs including interest later. Congress is ruling the cooperative bank.

Bank president Suresh Mambarambil responded that there was no threat to repay the loan. The dues relief scheme was notified. The bank officials also informed that the bank did not pressurize for repayment.
