NEW DELHI: The Income tax raid at BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai regarding tax evasion continues today just weeks after the release of a documentary critical of PM Modi.

The officials said the raid is in progress to copy the information in the account books, computers and mobile phones of the employees to trace the tax evasion.

The journalists and other employees were allowed to leave by Tuesday night, but the Finance and Accounts department staff had to stay. The BBC said they are cooperating with the investigation. Only the news section employees are coming to the office now.

Meanwhile, there are widespread protest against the raid. American newspapers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal criticized that the raid is conducted with bad intentions followed by the airing of the documentary. The New York Times pointed out that such thin-skinned response to criticism is in stark contrast with India’s rising stature as an emerging power.
