KOZHIKODE: Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan demanding a fair investigation into the mysterious death of tribal youth Viswanathan. The letter says that there should be a thorough investigation into the matter and justice should be ensured for Viswanathan's bereaved family.

The family is alleging that following the death of Viswanathan, who came in as a bystander for his wife's delivery, a post-mortem was hastily conducted. In the letter, it is said that the family dismissed the police report that Viswanathan's death was a suicide and asked for a re-postmortem. The letter indicates that the state SC/ST Commission has also rejected the police report. Rahul Gandhi, in his letter, said that Viswanathan's family including the newborn child deserves justice and therefore, if there have been any lapses, there should be an impartial inquiry. He also asked to provide a job to one of the family members.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Viswanathan's body may be subjected to repostmortem. A team led by the Medical College ACP reached Kalpetta and after recording the statements of Viswanathan's relatives, the move is to seek the permission of the court to conduct a re-postmortem. The SC/ST Commission had instructed the police not to treat Viswanathan's death as a suicide case and to rectify the mistakes in the investigation, after which the proceedings were expedited.

Kozhikode DCP himself took up the investigation following the SC/ST Commission's directive. He reached the Mathru Shisu Samrakshana Kendhram of Kozhikode Medical College and re-examined the CCTV footage. After checking the CCTV footage, the police got crucial information and made changes to the FIR.

Police have got footage of Viswanathan talking to two people in the hospital premises and about twelve people standing around him before his death. Some of them have been identified by the police. The police will also check whether the people involved in the video footage tortured Viswanathan in any way. The police inform that in the coming days, they will get crucial evidence that will help in the investigation of the case.
