THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Wheelchair-bound Nishan Nisar has become a symbol of inner strength and determination as he shines as a model on fashion show ramps and as a sports star on the badminton court. Nishan, who has graced modelling venues in Kochi, Bengaluru and Goa, is the ambassador of an international modelling brand called Badass Nation.

Nishan was getting ready to enrol in a degree programme when he was struck by a pickup van four years ago at Chanthavila in Kazhakootam. His spinal cord and leg were severely injured. Although the doctors ruled that Nishan had lost the ability to walk, he was not ready to stay at home. Due to his passion for modelling, he emailed several agencies.

Now, Nishan is one of the best para-badminton players in Kerala. He has been selected for national-level para-badminton competitions in March. He is also interested in adventure sports. He did scuba diving in Kovalam two weeks ago. His next ambitions are skydiving and paragliding.

Sales Executive for income

Nishan is the sales executive of the India-developed Neomotion scooter for the differently-abled. The scooter was developed by IIT Madras. His job involves visiting doctors in Thiruvananthapuram on Neomotion's scooter to introduce and sell Neomotion's scooters and wheelchairs. This scooter is used only by Nishan and his friend Hashir in Thiruvananthapuram.
