NEW DELHI: The central government made serious amendments to the organ donation rules in the country. The age limit has been relaxed with other options to register anywhere in the country, says the circular from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The registration fees have also been avoided.
With the new rules coming into effect, people aged 65 and more will be able to receive organs from donors. Till now the threshold age was 65, but the Health Ministry made new guidelines saying 65 is not that old and more people should get an opportunity for organ transplantation. Meanwhile, priority will be given to Youths.
The revised guidelines also allow people from any state to register anywhere across the country applying a ceiling to the domicile criterion. The central government also advised the state government to make the changes required in this rule. Till now states such as Kerala, Gujarat, and Maharashtra levied Rs 5000 to Rs 10000 as registration fees.
