CHENNAI: In the case of sexual assault against a Malayali railway employee in Tenkasi, the police failed to catch the accused even after a day and a half. A team of 20 people headed by Railway DSP Ponnusamy is investigating the case. Pavoorchatram police had earlier informed that they have received crucial information about the suspect.

The police have concluded that the suspect is a painting worker. The investigating team got the shoe suspected to belong to him. A trace of paint was found on the shoe, which led to the suspicion that the suspect was a painting worker. An investigation is underway focusing on painting workers in the area. Many people have already been questioned by the police.

The incident took place on Thursday night around 8 pm at Pavoorchatram railway gate, one kilometer away from Tenkasi. While looking at the mobile phone in the guard room, the assailant tried to sneak in. When she resisted, she was brutally attacked. The woman said that she would give gold ornaments if needed, but the victim said that he did not want them. She ran out but was chased, trampled, and dragged along the track. She managed to escape and took refuge in a nearby house.

Meanwhile, the victim's family said that the assailant was a Tamil speaker. The woman gave a statement to the police that he entered the guard room and tried to abuse her, and that the assailant was a shirtless man wearing khaki pants. According to the woman's statement, the assailant threatened to kill her if she did not cooperate.
The victim who had the distressing experience is a woman from Kollam, who married a native of Tamil Nadu and settled there. The seriously injured woman was admitted to the Tirunelveli Railway Hospital.
