THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although two weeks have passed after a teacher was attacked near the Museum in the state capital, the police are yet to find the assailants who reached the spot on a bike. The police are giving a strange reply that they did not get any clear images of the vehicle or the attackers from the CCTV cameras in the area as the incident took place after midnight.
Officials are claiming that the police have examined footage obtained from around 30 cameras, including those on the road behind the Museum, and from houses and institutions in Kanaka Nagar. However, they could not identify the registration number of the motorbike or the passengers on it. The cameras in Kanaka Nagar do not have night vision and are not capable of recognizing vehicle number plates and passengers. As a result of this, the culprits could not be identified despite thoroughly examining the footage after sending it to centres, including the forensic lab. The police are also conducting an investigation with the help of cyber police focusing on the tower location of the mobile phones that passed through the spot during the time of the incident. The police recently nabbed five persons accused in similar cases before and examined whether they were present at the spot at the time of the incident. However, they did not get any evidence to link these persons with the attack. The police have intensified vehicle checks on Kanaka Nagar road at night. The incident took place on Museum Kanaka Nagar Road at around 11.45 pm on February 3.
The Thrissur native woman was attacked when she was walking from the gate on Kanaka Nagar road to the main entrance along the road near the police station. Her two friends were a little ahead. After turning off the headlight, the attackers, who were coming from the opposite direction, approached the woman and assaulted her. The attackers fled the spot as the woman's friends arrived on the scene after hearing her scream.
