MADURAI: A youth has been taken into custody for attacking a Malayalee railway gate keeper at Poorvika Chatram in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu. The youth taken into custody is a Malayalee identified as Anish of Pathanapuram. He is an accused in a sexual assault case registered in Kunnicode police station. He was doing painting works in Shenkottai after released on bail. He was taken into custody by Madurai railway special police team.
The accused tried to sexually abuse her after hitting her face with a stone when she was alone in the guard room of the railway gate near Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu. He hit her head with the phone receiver. He then dragged her through the railway track.
The 27-year-old woman hailing from Kollam and staying here after marrying a native of Tamil Nadu suffered the bad experience. The attacker was wearing only a khaki pant.
The incident happened last Thursday night at Poorvika Chatram railway gate one kilometer away from Tenkasi. The assailant attacked her from behind when she was in the guard room and was looking at her mobile. When she resisted the attack, he attacked her brutally. He did not pay heed to her request to take all her gold and spare her life.
Though she ran, he chased her and dragged her through the railway track. In the meanwhile, she fled from his hands and sought refuge in a house nearby. She is staying in a rented house with her husband near the Chatram railway station 500 metres away from the railway gate.
The traffic department and the engineering department employees are assigned for duty at the gates near the railway station. All five employees of the traffic section of Chatram station are women. So, night duty cannot be avoided. There were demands to deploy men for night duty but have not been implemented.
