KOCHI: The attaching of properties of PFI members for the sudden hartal on September 23 was news for all the wrong reasons. The names got interchanged and the government confiscated the properties of people not even linked with the banned political outfit. Rectifying the gaffe committed, the government informed the High court about giving back the properties of 25 people mistakenly confiscated.
The high court solicited a case for the September 23 sudden hartal that inflicted a loss of Rs 5.20 crore and more for Kerala. The streets went aflame and the people traveling for urgent needs were stopped and attacked. Even cases were reported of ambulances being blocked by the agitated supporters of the banned outfit.
The bench led by Justice AK Jayashankaran Nambiar and Justice CP Muhammed Niyas then initiated actions and asked the government to attach the properties of PFI leaders without any delay, to which the government abided after an initial lapse.
