THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister's proposal to dismiss police officers who regularly commit serious crimes has been overturned. The action taken to immediately suspend 12 of 59 officers who are involved in serious crimes have been delayed.

The police organizations, top officers and political leaders joined hands to protect them. The submission of final list of those involved in criminal cases was delayed from the districts. Thus, blocking further action from the police headquarters. With this, the troublemakers continue to be in charge of law and order. The officer who was under suspension for taking monthly instalment from people and the officer under investigation by CBI in the custodial murder case was reinstated into service.

The police started action against the criminals on January 10 by dismissing inspector PR Sunu who was involved in many crimes including rape. The four other accused officers were also dismissed later. Six people including two DYSPs were suspended. With this, the criminal police came into action through pressure.

Meanwhile, a fake operation to nab those with long-standing warrants and the suspension of a few policemen in the capital who have connection with land mafia was done to distract attention. The officers at Mangalapuram station were transferred. The criminal policemen were provided political and organizational protection under the guise of this.

The DGP had directed to action against criminals in service as per Section 56 based on Kerala Kaumudi report.

Foul play

1. CI V Saiju, the leader of the police officers’ association, who is accused in two rape cases and for giving false documents to obtain bail in the high court, has been absconding for months.

2. Inspector R Jayasanal, who is accused in Pocso case, was not arrested despite his anticipatory bail plea being rejected in January.

The police headquarters snformed that the action against the culprits is delayed due to the lag in completing the procedures. PR Sunu was dismissed after a month and a half process.
