NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court rejected the high court ruling surrounding Travancore Devasom board Temples. Earlier, the high court found the substances used in Pooja rituals in the temple to be adulterated. The court suggested the board makes procurement facilities to bring these substances to the temple thereby ensuring the substance stays clean for ritual.

The supreme court meanwhile annulled the order saying the high court order was impractical to practice. Supreme court earlier appointed a committee headed by Justice KT Shankaran to unravel the clogged dealings behind the Devasom board temples. The committee studied the center store facilities for procurement in 1250 devsom-controlled temples and wrote of the method as far-fetched.

Justice V Subramanium of the supreme court asked the high court to decide further actions in accordance with the KT Shankaran report. The retired judge KT Shankaran's report also mentions the corruption in the board behind the veil of procurement of Pooja essentials.

Also, the report says the use of sandalwood used in temples is of doctored quality. The report says it is mainly due to the skyrocketing rate of sandalwood which costs Rs 20000 for a kilogram. The whole issue started after Mavelikara native P Suresh Kumar filed a petition asking the high court intrusion to bust the adulterated substances used in rituals.
