AMRAVATHI: A university in Andhra Pradesh has released a strange circular asking employees for donation to conduct a ‘homam’ in the campus. It has been said in the circular of Sri Krishnadevaraya university that 'Maha Mruthyunjaya Shanti Homam' will be held following the death of some employees.
Five employees of different departments in the university died last month. The university claims that there is nothing unnatural in the death but there is a curse on the university. So, the homam is being conducted to avert it. The participation in homam is not mandatory. But those participating in the homam have to contribute. The circular says that teaching staff should contribute Rs 500 and non-teaching staff Rs 100. Homam is scheduled to be held on 24th of this month at 8.30 am.
At the same time, leftist student organizations including SFI came forward with a protest stating that they cannot allow such superstitious rituals like homam in the campus.
