KARIPUR: Two people were caught by customs at the Karipur airport for trying to smuggle gold chains by placing them inside their mouths. Customs seized gold chains weighing 140 grams and 145 grams respectively from Ahmed Shabir and Nooruddin who had arrived from Dubai.

Apart from these, Ibrahim Muhammad Yasir, a native of Kasargod, who came from Sharjah, was also arrested for smuggling 210 grams of gold coins hidden in his underwear. Three capsules containing a mixture of gold weighing 752 grams was found hidden inside the body of Kabir Pudhukkudi, a native of Kozhikode, who came from Dubai. Customs informed that gold extraction work and detailed follow-up investigation will be carried out.

The customs also caught Muhammad Yusuf, a native of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, for trying to smuggle 6,000 US dollars from Karipur to Dubai without sufficient documents. The value of this currency is Rs 4,83,600.

443 grams of gold found on February 14 from Shahul Hameed, a native of Ramanattukara who arrived from Dubai, was extracted. He tried to smuggle gold by hiding in carton boxes. The gold was found when the carton box seized on the basis of suspicion was examined by an expert on Sunday. It is worth Rs 25.31 lakh in the market.
