THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A monkey escaped out of its enclosure in the zoo here while there were visitors, causing concern. The brown colored Bengal monkey jumped out of its cage at 3.30 pm on Monday. While the keepers were cleaning its cage, the 10-year-old male monkey, which belongs to an aggressive category of apes, managed to sneak out of the cage.

The monkey then climbed the tree in the zoo premises and sat there. The zoo doctor used a gun to tranquilize the monkey, but the gun malfunctioned. This caused among the authorities as well. TMore staff came and threw stones and made loud noises and chased the monkey down. As soon as he came down, the monkey was forced inside an open enclosure. A special staff member was also assigned last night to monitor the monkey, which refused to be moved to a closed cage. Although there is a lapse on the part of the staff, the zoo authorities are not yet ready to respond.
