THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is emulating developed countries to attract more people towards the public transport system. The government is pondering over a new system that will help people to access more than one mode of transport service with just one ticket.
Auto, taxi services, and vans will be used as feeder services to bring people to the KSRTC bus depot. An online platform will be created for this system and a uniform ticket method will be introduced soon. Keralakaumudy recently made a report that stated the appalling numbers of decline in people using Kerala state transport service. In the last ten years, 65 lakh people shifted from relying on public transport and now depend on private ones. The new move is imperative to bring down the huge traffic that clogs the city and times. Also, to consider is the burgeoning accidents in the city due to more private vehicles entering the road.
The new method can be defined through an example: Take the case of a man from Neyyatinkara, who needs an urgent visit to Ernakulam. The sole thing he needs to do is take a ticket via the website. An auto will reach his doorstep and will take him to the bus stop. Any ordinary bus will fetch him to Thampanoor from Neyyatinkara in the city. From there, he can make his travel to Ernakulam on a superfast KSRTC bus. All this in one single ticket.
