KOCHI: The High Court has ordered to arrest Nipun Cherian, the leader of an organization called ‘V4 Kochi’ and produce him before court in a contempt of court case voluntarily filed against him for making a speech defaming the court and uploading it on Facebook.

Nipun was not present when the case was considered for hearing on Tuesday. Subsequently, a non-bailable warrant was issued for his arrest and production before court at 10.15 am on February 28. The division bench comprising of Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambia and Justice C.P. Mohammad Niaz gave the direction to the Ernakulam district police chief.

The case is that Nipun Cherian made a speech defaming the court following the High Court's intervention in the case related to Pokkali farming. The division bench had ordered Nipun to appear compulsorily in the case yesterday.

The division bench issued a non-bailable warrant saying that when courts are overwhelmed with caseloads, time cannot be wasted on such acts by a person. The division bench also stated that such measures are not acceptable.
