ISLAMABAD: One of India’s most wanted terrorist has been killed in Pakistan. Hizbul commander Bashir Ahmead Peer alias Imtiyaz Alam was killed in an attack by an unidentified group in the capital of Pakistan. India designated him as a terrorist in October 2022. He was described as the 'launching commander' of Hizbul Mujahideen. He was instrumental in recruiting terrorists from Pakistan to India.

Alam was killed on the evening of February 20 in Islamabad's Rawalpindi area. Pakistani media reports that two gunmen opened fire on him as he was standing outside a shop. Alam is a close confidant of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. He was born in Babapora in North Kashmir's Kupwara district and had been controlling anti-India activities from Pakistan since 2000. He had inspired the youth to implement Sharia law in Jammu and Kashmir. For this, terror camps and launch pads from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were coordinated by him.

So, has the battlefield shifted? Hizbul Mujahideen launching commander Bashir Ahmad Peer @ Imtiaz Aalam of Kupwara has been shot dead in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Imtiyaz was a founding member of Hizbul Mujahideen and was the third commander of the organisation. The terrorist was shot from point blank range. He was then taken to the hospital in critical condition but was declared dead. There are reports that the firing was due to issues between Pakistan-based militant groups. Due to Pakistan's poor economic conditions, ISI is unable to channel funds to terrorists as it used to do. Imtyiaz Alam was arrested in Pakistan in 2007 but was later released after the intervention of the ISI. After his murder, the ISI hid all the terrorists wanted by India, including Syed Salahuddin, with tight security.
