THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance has intensified its investigation to find out the police officers who have accumulated illegal wealth even under benami names by using the police uniform as cover. Vigilance has found that 34 officers, including DySPs, have accumulated illegal wealth. Data, including phone records of the officials, will be checked to find out the benamis. Vigilance chief Manoj Abraham told 'Kerala Kaumudi' that bank accounts and gold deposits of the officials will be checked.

The investigation was started in response to claims that police personnel were serving as intermediaries in significant land deals and financial fraud cases, earning enormous sums of money. Additionally, reports claimed that authorities settled cases, including theft cases, for financial gain. Vigilance officials are first examining the assets of policemen who are named accused in criminal cases and have gangster-mafia connections. Vigilance will seek the cooperation of the Revenue Department and others to find the houses and properties bought by the police officials.
