CHENNAI: O Paneerselvam suffered a setback in the AIADMK leadership row. The Supreme court confirmed the Madras High court order that allows Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) to continue as the party general secretary. The court made the decision on the plea filed by the O Panneerselvam faction against the general council meeting held on July 11.
After Jayalalitha's death, changes were made in the party constitution eliminating the post of general secretary and retaining the posts of coordinator and deputy coordinator. The OPS faction argued that the general council conducted by the Palaniswami faction was not valid as it corrected the changes made by them by bringing back the post of general secretary. The case was earlier adjourned for judgment after giving time to both parties till 16th of this month to submit written arguments.
The division bench had quashed the Madras High Court single bench order that the status quo should continue before the election of Palaniswami as the interim general secretary. Paneerselvam approached the Supreme Court against this.
