THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The accidental death insurance amount for state government employees, teachers, university employees, police, KSEB, KSRTC and other public sector institutions has been increased from 10 lakhs to 15 lakhs. The annual premium of the scheme has also been increased to Rs 1000. It will be effective from April 1. Those who have already paid the premium will have to pay the increased amount.
Earlier, the premium was Rs 850 in KSEB, Rs 600 in KSRTC, Rs 800 in Police and Rs 500 in other categories. This has been consolidated to Rs 1000.
The kin of the insured will receive Rs 5 lakhs for all deaths other than accidental. However, the sum assured is not available for suicide, death due to drunkenness, intoxication and accident by breaking laws. In 2011, accident insurance was introduced for government employees. The Group Personal Accident Insurance scheme renamed back then as Jeevan Raksha scheme.
