RAIPUR: Instead of holding elections for the Congress Working Committee, the Congress leadership has decided to continue the practice of nominating members (CWC). The decision was taken by the party's Steering Committee. As soon as the meeting started, party president Mallikarjun Kharge asked all the members to clarify their position. The majority of the members opposed holding election no election to CWC.
By deciding the president through an election, the party has given out the message that there is a democratic process in the party. However, most of the members felt that another election in the party could lead to an explosion with Lok Sabha and Assembly elections coming up. Leaders like P Chidambaram and Ajay Maken said that elections should be held. However, Mallikarjun Kharge announced the decision not to hold the election considering the majority opinion.
