kovalam-beach

The postcard picturesque beaches of Kovalam were engraved into the international tourist hotspots decades back. The place always gets reserved with foreigners and sometimes choc full of them. The government all this while went gloating about the serenity and the absolute bluish ripples best fit for a good pastime of surfing. Albeit the big praises, the place was left to survive on its own with no look from the officials. But alas, the time is here and the government has finally allotted Rs 93 crores for the renovation process in Kovalam.

The tourism department wants to see again the old halcyon days of Kovalam which was replete with tourists from foreign lands sunbathing in their tranquil best. The present renovation comes in two parts. The beach and the park will be renovated first, later followed by more land extension and proper traveling routes by mending up all the cluttered roads nearby. The second part of the renovation mainly focuses on the place Adimalathura. The coconut field nearby will be given a facelift with the aesthetics of what is seen in Goa. Earlier, many tries and initiatives were made to help revive Kovalam, but all the money allotted went into drains and never reached even the aisle of the scenic beach. The covid pandemic and the maligned condition of the beach made the tourist alter their course to find other spots in southern India rather than giving a try to this place.

The beach that extends over 600km is a boon from nature gods to Kerala. Even countries not that developed thrive in beach tourism which adds up to their GDP, just for the meticulous development adopted. Kerala can also emulate not just the developed but small countries that have cultivated a loyalist tourist clan just for its maintenance of prime tourist spots. Presently, the government is braving a falling economy so the need of the hour comes as other investments. The government for this to happen needs to find space and should amend the laws in favor of development.

Tourism is a sort of lethal weapon, and if used in a proper way can yield big results. Kerala should also try renovating such spaces simply for the fact of having all such awe-struck beauties of nature clogged in one small state. The results can fill coffers and moreover will be a repartee to the long-asked queries of unemployment in the state.
