KOCHI: The KSRTC beseeched the high court to ask the government to pay the arrears stocked up for the contributory pension scheme that is currently at a standstill. The government needs to pay an additional Rs 251. 63 crore to the scheme. Over 106 employees moved a petition to the high court seeking a release of the payment taken from the employees for the contributory pension scheme. The law officer of KSRTC PN Henna responded to this petition in court.

The contributory pension scheme started in 2014. According to the exact figures, the government needs to pay Rs 333.36 crores into the scheme. Due to the covid induced financial straits, only Rs 81.73 crore was paid. The current profits from the KSRTC won't suffice the needed amount to be paid. The high court has recently asked the KSRTC to take away 10 percent from the daily profits to pay for the thousand pensioners who are being halted the benefits for a long.

KSRTC’s daily profit ranges near Rs 6 crore. From this, Rs 3 crore is used for fuel filling. The other one crore goes to the bank consortium. The rest of the money isn't meeting the exact numbers needed to give away pensions and other benefits to employees. The free pass scheme that ran near to a decade has heaved a loss of Rs 2351.93 lakh for the department.
