KOLLAM: Two youths who came to see Sambranikodi wearing black shirts had to spend eight hours in police custody at the Kollam East Police Station. Faisal (19, an electrician and Plus One student Sivaprasad (18), natives of Alappuzha's Aroor, had to face wrath of police's recent disgust against black clothes.
They were taken into custody near the Kollam railway station, but the police did not listen to them despite crying that they were not affiliated with any party and that the black shirts were catering uniforms. The policemen forced the youths into the jeep by holding them by the shirt collar and hands.
Ahead of the arrival of the Chief Minister, the police were running around the city to take the protesters into custody. The houses of opposition youth organization leaders were raided to detain them, but they all moved elsewhere. Faisal and Sivaprasad was nabbed while the cops were desperately in search for the protesters.
Faisal and Sivaprasad reached Kollam by train at 8 am yesterday. They came here on Thursday night after a catering job in Ernakulam. After reaching their, they realized that they need more money than what they have in hand to go to Sambranikodi. Atfer this, they bought a ticket for the 11.55 Alappuzha train and waited at the railway station. In the meantime, the two went out to drink some water and was caught by the police. Both of them were put in the vehicle and moved to the East Police Station. The officers interrogated both at the station.
They were kept at the station until Chief Minister returned after attending two programs in Kollam. They were released around 7 pm after summoning their relatives to the station. The police explained that the two were taken into custody after seeing them in an unusual situation and had nothing to do with the Chief Minister's visit.
