RAIPUR: The Raipur plenary conference of the Congress party called for a strong opposition led by the Congress instead of a third front to topple the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The political resolution passed by the conference stated that the Congress should undertake the task of mobilizing like-minded secular parties.

According to the Congress leadership, the emergence of the third front will benefit the BJP. The grand old party is rejecting attempts made by Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool, Chandrasekhara Rao's BRS and Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party for a third front.

The opposition should be strengthened through the unity of secular and socialist forces. Congress should take up the task of mobilizing secular forces. A unity similar to the fight put up by the Congress against the BJP and Trinamool in Tripura and West Bengal by teaming up with the CPM is needed. Only a united opposition can face NDA. Congress should act as a responsible and responsive opposition. It should organise campaigns on local issues.

This year's assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are crucial for India's future. Congress should define a new political goal by regaining power at the Centre.

The party should take up BJP's statement that they have no rivals in 2024 as a challenge. The resolution also contains various proposals to be implemented if the party comes back to power at the Centre. Meanwhile, the resolution does not oppose JDU leader Nitish Kumar's moves to become the prime ministerial candidate.
