THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan criticized the government on the appointment of VC of Malayalam University. The governor's letter asks on the basis of which law the government appointed the search committee on its own. The governor also asked on what basis the governor's nominee is being demanded. The letter also said that while the search committee was formed with a UGC representative, the government did not provide a representative.
The government has formed a search committee on its own for the appointment of the VC of Malayalam University, and the secretary of higher education has twice written to the governor requesting that the governor's representative be assigned to it. The reply was given by the Raj Bhavan Secretary as per the instructions of the Governor. Earlier, a law was passed to give upper hand to the government in the appointment of VCs and it was given for the Governor's approval. But the governor has not yet signed the bill. The governor asked how the government is going ahead with such action without approval.
