HYDERABAD: A medical post graduate student died days after she attempted suicide over mental harassment by her seniors. The dead is Dr P Preethi (26), a native of Warangal in Telangana and a first year PG student from Kakatiya Medical College. She attempted suicide by injecting herself with a poison on Wednesday after she was unable to bear the mental harassment of her seniors. She died at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Sunday evening.
The Telangana government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to her family. The police arrested Dr M A Saif, a senior student, after the incident stoked a controversy, for abetment of suicide. He is in judicial custody. Her father Narender said that he was harassing since December 2022 and she was subjected to severe ragging.
Her relatives held protests in the hospital where she was treated. Several student groups and civil society organizations staged protests demanding justice for her family.
