THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The corporation will assign almost 2500 volunteers for the cleaning act after the Attukal Pongala in the city. 1000 corporation workers are already assigned duty on this particular day, while the other 1500 workers come as additional allotments to meet the target of cleaning the city in a day's time.Rs 800 will be paid daily for the 1500 additional workers. Apart from the help of corporation vehicles, 30 tipper lorries and two JCBs will be taken on rent.

The remnants and other debris from Pongala will be disposed in the space owned by the agriculture department near Enchakal. If the space doesn’t fit, then the corporation has other ways as the officials have managed to acquire permission from private owners to dispose of waste in their plots. 50 mobile toilets have also been placed by the corporation in the city.

Meanwhile, the pots being sold as hotcakes in the city were found to have toxic chemicals. The pots made to look red are coated with red oxide and black oxide which are harmful to health. The corporation has got enough complaints after which an official license has been made mandatory for selling pots on the streets. Health officials will also initiate inspections in the streets.
