NEW DELHI: PIL in Supreme Court for registration of living together relationships. It is requested that the court should give instructions to prepare rules and guidelines for this. The petition pointed out the situation where partners in such relationships are killed. Advocate Mamata Rani filed the petition. The petition also states that due to the lack of rules and guidelines for living together relationships, there has been a huge increase in crimes like rape and murder. The petition cited recent cases in which women were killed by their partners, including the Shraddha Walker case.

Registration of a live-in relationship provides accurate information about the partner's marital status, criminal background, etc. to each other and the government. The public interest litigation has also demanded that the central government be directed to prepare a database to find out the exact number of people involved in these relationships in our country.
