THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition's unexpected and unusual incursion in the Legislative Assembly yesterday on the Life Mission corruption case put the government on the defense. It was Congress member Mathew Kuzhalnadan, who spoke with the notice of emergency motion with a direct accusation against the Chief Minister and the Chief Minister's office, that provoked the ruling party. The opposition's political attack, when the Enforcement Directorate was about to question Chief Minister's Additional Private Secretary CM Ravindran in the Life Mission corruption case, became an annoyance to the CPM and the ruling front.
Earlier, whenever the Opposition raised allegations in the House regarding the Life Mission deal, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan defended himself with a strong reply. When Chief Minister raised his hands earlier saying that 'these hands are clean because they are clean', it was more than enough to hush the opposition. But, yesterday, we saw the Chief Minister losing control in the face of the onslaught of opposition from the beginning itself.
Mathew Kuzhalnadan's citation of the remand report submitted to the court by the ED in the case and the WhatsApp chats of the accused M Sivashankar incited the outrage of the Chief Minister. Mathew Kuzhalnadan, the most backbench newcomer in the assembly, saw the chief minister getting up several times to answer him, which was unusual. The scenes in the House made it clear that the ruling party was enraged by the opposition's move. The House became tense as the entire ruling party rose after the Chief Minister and raised voices at the opposition. The House saw Mathew Kuzhalnadan, who did not budge on the provocation, challenge the Chief Minister.
Speaker without interference; dissatisfied Chief Minister
The speaker had to adjourn the house due to the uproar. There is also a hint of bitterness from the Chief Minister towards the approach of Speaker AN Shamsir, who did not intervene in the provocative remarks of the opposition. 'I think you are also listening to the member talking here against the rules as if he has the right to say anything "- the Chief Minister looked at the speaker and said in the House. The interpretation is that the Chief Minister was expressing his displeasure at the fact that the Speaker did not interfere with Mathew Kuzhalnadan's speech when the House resumed after an adjournment.
