THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 1382 2nd year PG doctors from government and private medical colleges will serve in rural areas from today. They are deployed in 4 groups of 3 months each in the taluk, district, and general hospitals for the district residency program as per National Medical Commission norms. With the availability of PG doctors in specialty departments in hospitals from the taluk level onwards, lower-level hospitals will be benefited.
An attempt to post doctors for 78 hospitals with more than 100 beds from medical colleges of the respective districts itself has been carried out. For effective implementation of the District Residency Programme, the Director of the Medical Education Department has been appointed as State Level Nodal Officer and the Director of the Health Department as Program Coordinator. Dr. C Ravindran was appointed as the coordinator for the implementation and coordination of the project. As a part of the program, a steering committee and a district-level committee were formed and the medical education department released guidelines.
