PATIALA: The police have arrested a 20-year-old servant who tried to flee after killing a woman. The incident took place in Kheri Chandwan village in Punjab's Sangrur district. The deceased is 42-year-old Paramjit Kaur. The murder was committed by Nitish Kumar (20), who was working at her house.

According to the police, Nitish had been working at the house of farmer Gurucharan Singh and his wife Paramjit. Nitish attempted to rape Paramjit after Gurucharan went to buy agricultural supplies and the couple's 18-year-old son went to school. When Paramjit defended strongly, Nitish took an axe and hacked her to death. The incident took place around 1.20 pm.

After killing the housewife, Nitish ransacked the house to make the murder appear like a robbery by thieves. The police later nabbed Nitish from the railway station while he was attempting to flee.
