solar

A scheme designed to promote solar power in homes is being undermined by its creators themselves. It was promised that the solar power generated by the houses would be purchased by the board itself at an attractive rate. With the promise of getting a huge amount as a subsidy for installing solar units, it is already set to be tested in around one lakh homes. The scheme has been implemented in 22 thousand houses. It was then that KSEB changed its stand as usual. Now they are saying that solar power cannot be purchased at the rate offered earlier. If you want, you can sell it at 2.69 per unit. Earlier it was promised to give 3.22 rupees. But the selling price is reduced by saying that buying solar for this amount will cause a huge loss to the board. No other epithets can fit this except the word absurdity.

At least a few people believed the word of the government and electricity board and came forward to experiment with solar, when they were paying Rs 12 to 14 per unit for outside electricity. And they are in trouble now when the board changed its stance. There is also a regulatory commission here to support any whims of the electricity board. The main task of the Regulatory Commission now, which was established to protect the interests of consumers, is to approve the rate hike proposed by the Board. The Regulatory Commission is completely on the board's side when it comes to purchasing solar power. According to the board's application to the Regulatory Commission, solar power is being purchased at Rs 1.53 per unit in many states. The board, which buys power from outside at a heavy price in times of need, must be having some reason behind its aversion to solar power generated by the locals.

It's no secret that KSEB, which spends over Rs 8,500 crore a year to buy electricity, has long been averse to non-conventional energy. Even when other states are making leaps and bounds in this field, Kerala is standing still. After the end of the rainy season, all the reservoirs fill up. But with the onset of summer, we hear the news that hydropower production will have to be reduced. It was announced earlier that there will be no need for any electricity control this year. But it's said differently now. Any amount of electricity can be obtained from outside at a higher price. There is great excitement about buying it as well. Whatever extra money has to be spent on this, will be burdened onto the consumers later.

Home solar power generation is a good idea. Although the unit costs money to install, it has the advantage of saving the current charge to be paid to the board. Surplus electricity can be sold to the board. Overall it is an attractive project. While on the one hand there is a concerted effort to promote non-conventional energy production, here the board is planning to punish those who venture into it. The board and the regulatory commission are not only deceiving the people, but also the government.
