KOCHI: Just like the state syllabus schools in Kerala, the ICSE and CBSE schools functioning on the central syllabus will not implement the central government's proposal to make six years the minimum age of admission for Class 1 in the academic year 2023–24. National Council of CBSE Schools secretary general Dr Indira Rajan said that the Ministry of Education has directed the CBSE and ICSE schools to accept the decision of the state governments in this regard.

Sources close to the state education department also said that the proposal will not be implemented in the academic year 2023-24. Detailed discussions are needed to implement this. Changes will have to be introduced, including in the textbooks. As admission to Class 1 has started, it is impractical to implement the proposal this year.
