He was inaugurating the reading corner set up at Valiyasala LP School under the auspices of the PN Panicker Foundation and Kasturba Village Library.

Headmistress Preetha received 265 books of children's literature from the Chief Secretary. The Chief Secretary expressed happiness over the launch of the reading corner yesterday on the 114th birth anniversary of the father of the library movement, PN Panicker. He advised children to read well to create an enlightened society.

Literacy Mission Director Prof AG Oleena presided over the function. Kasturba Library Secretary Mahesh Manikyam, PN Panicker Foundation Vice Chairman N Balagopal, former Lalithakala Academy member Karakamandapam Vijayakumar, PN Reading Mission Coordinator J. Bijumon and others participated in the function.

It was Kerala Kaumudi that brought to light Preetha's efforts which turned Valiyasala LP School, once covered with bushes and creepers, into an excellent school with a garden and a lab. After reading the report published on February 12, Kasturba Library Secretary Mahesh Manikyam volunteered to set up the reading corner at the school. Preetha was also honoured at the program organized by PN Panicker Foundation at Ayyankali Hall yesterday.
