KANNUR: The income tax sleuths are conducing a raid at Vaidekam Resort in Kannur, where Indira, wife of E P Jayarajan is the chairperson. The officials reached the resort Thursday afternoon. EP’s son has also a stake in the resort. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also started an investigation on the complaint of money laundering under the cover of the resort. The ED investigation is on the complaint of a journalist of Kochi.
The IT department have not divulged information of any irregularities in the resort. The resort officials have not responded on the raid. Allegations of misappropriation were levelled against E P Jayarajan in connection with this resort.
ED Kochi unit started the preliminary investigation. The complaint alleged that there is black money investment in the Ayurvedic resort through a Gulf Malayali, a native of Kannur. The complaint has also provided details of 20 people who deposited money in the resort. The list contains the name of people who have deposited 1.5 crore.
The vigilance had earlier written to the government seeking permission to investigate the complaint against the resort involving the family of E P Jayarajan. The nod for investigation was sought on the complaint filed by a youth congress leader. The main demand in the complaint is that Jayarajan, as a former industry minister, made inappropriate interventions for the family-owned resort, and that allegations of corruption, conspiracy and money laundering should be investigated.
