THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Although all the unions have raised strong protests against the order to pay salary in two installments, KSRTC does not have money in hand even to pay the first installment. The reason is that the government assistance of Rs 50 crore for January salary is yet to be received.
Last month's salary was paid by taking an overdraft of Rs 50 crore in the hope of receiving this amount on February 27. The calculation was that on receiving the government assistance, OD can be repaid, after which a new OD will be taken to pay the first installment, and the second installment will be paid when the financial assistance in February is received.
Now KSRTC has only Rs 10 crore in hand after other expenses. The corporation needs Rs 80 crores to pay the full salary.
In the circular sent to the unit heads, the CMD had directed that those who do not want salary in installments should give their consent at the depots before February 25. The chief office informed that no one gave such a consent form. KSRTC has 25893 permanent employees.
