THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mathew Zacharia (Babychan, 92), a former joint secretary and prominent sports writer, of Parakkal in Chengannur's Mukkam, has passed away. He served as founder secretary of the Kerala Secretariat Sports Association (1959), organizing secretary of All India Civil Services Athletics Meet and organizing secretary of All India Civil Services Football Tournament. He was the Sports Officer in 1983, 84, 85 under state chief secretaries Gopalaswamy, Ramachandran and Zacharia Mathew. He has written many sports articles for The Indian Express, The Hindu and United News of India. His body will be brought to the house in Moolavilakam Metro Lane in Pattoor at 6 pm on Friday.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1.30 pm at Palayam CSI Christ Church. Spouse: Late Achamma Simon. Children: Rebecca Mathew (Shanthi), Mary Mathew (Kunjumol), Dr Achamma John (Minni), late Sarah Mathew (Sumi). In-laws:Dr Binoy Kuriakose (Champonthayil), Jacob Thomas (Kaithavana Parambil), Dr John Joseph (Thaiyil Thekkethil), Late Varghese Itticheria (Poovakkunnel).
