THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation will start an inspection on Saturday to find out adulteration in the pots to be used for Attukal Pongala. Kerala Kaumudi had brought out the fact that several pots were adulterated. It was found that these pots are given colour by adding red oxide and black oxide. These chemicals will melt due to the heat of the fire during Pongala and will get mixed with the Pongala. This can cause serious health problems. Even though it is late, the Corporation decided to start the inspection after learning about this. As a first step of this, vendors selling pots and bricks should obtain a temporary license from the Corporation.
Vendors have to pay a maximum of Rs 500 for the temporary license depending on the area of the place in which they are selling pots. Upon providing information, the Corporation will issue the license within half an hour after inspection. So far, 35 traders have obtained licenses.
The inspection will start today under the leadership of the health department of the Corporation working in the Attukal temple. Pongala is being held in seven zonal limits of the Corporation. The respective zonal HIs will carry out the inspection in each zonal limit. At the time of testing, the pot will be purchased and delivered to the lab for testing. Strict action will be taken if adulteration is found.
