KAKKANAD: The fire force is finding it tough to contain the fire that broke out at the dumping yard of Kochi Corporation at Brahmapuram. Though the fire force reached from Thrikkakara, Aluva, Pattimatam, Tripunithura and Club Road, the fire could not be extinguished even after 40 hours. The plastic waste dumped in two acres is burning.

The fire broke out on Thursday around 4 pm. Since yesterday morning, Kochi city, Erur Infopark, Rajagiri, Mapranam, Chittethukara, Vyttila and Kadavanthra nearby areas are filled with smoke. People are also experiencing physical problems including breathing problems due to inhaling toxic fumes. As the fire is spreading fast, the firefighters are finding it tough to move forward through heaps of water. While trying to douse the flames, hose of the fire gutted in the fire.

Goods worth around Rs 5 lakh have been destroyed in the fire. The fire is still raging under the plastic waste. If the temperature rises, the fire may spread again. The district administration has taken strong preparations.

The fire force is running for water to douse the flames. Though they tried to take water from nearby wells and public ponds, failed in their attempt. There is a delay due to the situation of bringing water from outside.
