CHENNAI: Quite a scene erupted inside the Bihar assembly days back about the discrimination and attack faced by migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. Videos surfaced on some corners of social media showing Bihar workers getting thrashed by Tamil-speaking crowds. This created a political upheaval in Patna and moreover scared the migrants who were about to board the train for Tamil Nadu to work.

Meanwhile, the officials in Tamil Nadu have termed the videos as fake and doctored. District collectors are also assigned the duty to speak with migrants and quell their fears over an attack. Police are keeping a vigilant eye on the details on social media and are ready to take action against anyone inciting violence.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has reached out to Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin in a bid to reassure confidence among the two states. After the call, M K Stalin took center stage to vow complete protection for the migrant workers, whom he addressed as 'brothers'.

"Migrant workers need not fear. If anyone threatens you, call on the helpline. Tamil Nadu government and people will stand to protect our migrant brothers," he said in a statement.

Bihar DGP has called the Tamil Nadu DGP and had a healthy discussion regarding the issue. Tamil Nadu DGP C Sylendra Babu is standing firm on his earlier statement of the videos being doctored and misleading.
