THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who has fever and infection, has been advised to rest for three days. He was examined by an expert team of doctors including three physicians of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Saturday. He has infection and body aches due to continuous travel. Governor's week-long programs in North India were cancelled.

The governor also did not take a decision yesterday on the file to hand over the charge of the Malayalam University VC. The permission to introduce a bill in the Assembly to form a temporary syndicate at Calicut University is also undecided. A panel of 3 senior professors to give charge of Malayalam VC has been forwarded to the governor. The panel consists of senior professors each from Calicut, Kerala and Sanskrit Universities. They have 10 years of experience as professors, which is in line with the UGC rules. The bill is being introduced to replace the Calicut senate and syndicates, which expires on March 5, with a temporary syndicate

Governor's approval is required to introduce the bill as the government is financially responsible for this. The chancellor may appoint a temporary syndicate if the syndicate is dissolved or expires under the University of Calicut Act. The governor has assessed that the new bill will usurp this power of the governor.
