VENICE: Complaint that the doctor surgically removed the patient's genitalia following a wrong diagnosis. The patient in the municipality of Arezzo in the Tuscany region of Italy had the horrifying experience. The 30-year-old doctor amputated the patient's penis with the certainty that he had a tumor. But after the operation, when the separated genital part was examined, it was found that the disease was not serious. The patient had a disease that could be cured without amputation.
An unnamed man in his 60s was operated on at San Donato Hospital in Arezzo on November 13, 2018, following a misdiagnosis. Italy's top health officials questioned the urologist who performed the surgery. According to media reports, the patient had a form of syphilis on the skin of the penis, which could have been treated with medication, but the doctor was reluctant.

After the incident became controversial, the 60-year-old has filed a lawsuit seeking compensation. The court will hear the case on March 9. A large amount of compensation is usually awarded in such cases. In a similar case last year in France, a man who lost his penis due to a hospital error was awarded €62,000 in damages.
